... is the
guest speaker scheduled for the 140th meeting of the Karl Hess Club, to
convene on February 20, 2006.
Howard Hinman on "The Future
of Transportation."
Howard will discuss all the
new, and mainly free market, innovations in transportation, including personal
and mass transit that's superior to buses and trains. Environmentally
friendly cars and trucks: hybrid, diesel, and wankel. Fast ships
for
both cargo and passengers.
Revolutionary developments are
at hand.
* Large ships and the critical
insights of Spencer Heath MacCallum. The new Cunarder "Queen Mary
2" has 2600 passengers. Royal Caribbean's "Freedom of the Seas" will
have 3600 passengers. Even larger ships are coming soon. We
now have moving proprietary communities, like ResidenSeas's "The World."
* Dirigibles revival, starting
as communications "towers" -- and for tourism?
* VTOLs. Small and medium0sized
are now in advanced prototype stage.
* Hypersonic aircraft. It
looked like this might be one of Burt Rutan's secret projects, but a Canadian
firm is now pursuing it openly.
* Private space. Burt Rutan,
Paul Allen, the X-Prize -- much of the activity has and will be in California
(e.g. the Mojave "Spaceport").
It is our privilege to have Howard
give us a wide-ranging outlook of the current and fast-changing situation
and make predictions for the next quarter-century.
